It’s one of the most common frustrations I hear from dog guardians:
“We were doing really well… and then suddenly everything stopped working.”
Often, the problem isn’t motivation.
It isn’t stubbornness.
And it definitely isn’t that your dog “knows better.”
It’s pacing.
When training moves too quickly, dogs don’t learn faster. They learn uncertainty. And uncertainty quietly chips away at confidence, understanding, and progress.
In this week’s episode of Paws and Pawsitivity, I explore what dogs are actually learning when we increase difficulty too quickly. We look at why behaviour can suddenly fall apart in busy environments, why hesitation isn’t disobedience, and how confidence grows through predictable success, not pressure.
If your dog has ever seemed “fine at home but different outside,” or if progress has felt stop-start despite your best efforts, this episode will help you understand what’s really happening underneath the surface.
Slowing down isn’t failing your dog.
It’s supporting them.
