🐾 About Separation Anxiety

Q: Do I have to leave my dog to cry?
No. Never. My training is fear-free and force-free. Your dog will never be left in distress. We work under threshold so your dog stays calm and secure at every step.

Q: Will my dog grow out of it?
Unfortunately, no. Separation anxiety isn’t something dogs “grow out of.” Left unmanaged, it often gets worse. But with structured training, all dogs can improve.

Q: Does age matter?
Not at all. Puppies, adolescents, adults, and seniors can all learn to feel safe alone. The process is the same, but the pace and support are adjusted to fit their stage of life.

Q: My dog barks and howls when I leave – will this happen during training?
No. Because we work under threshold, your dog will not be pushed into panic during training. That means no uncontrolled barking, howling, or distress. If neighbours are concerned, I can provide a letter explaining the training process, to reassure them that your dog is being supported safely and ethically.

Q: What if my dog destroys things, soils the house, or injures themselves?
These behaviours are signs of panic. With structured, step-by-step training, they reduce because your dog learns that being alone is safe.

Q: Do you use crates to manage separation anxiety?
No. I have an ethical aversion to crates for separation anxiety training. Confinement during panic can make things worse. I only support free-choice resting spaces where your dog feels comfortable.

Q: Can separation anxiety really be fixed?
Yes. Many dogs make a full recovery. Others improve so much that everyday life becomes normal again. The key is slow, consistent progress that builds confidence without fear.

Q: How long will it take?
Every dog is different. Some improve within weeks, others take months. Think of it like rehabilitation: steady work builds lasting resilience.

Q: What if progress goes backwards?
Regression is normal. Illness, life changes, or moving house can cause setbacks. We adjust the plan, rebuild gently, and move forward again.

Q: Can I train if I work full-time?
Yes, but it requires planning. You’ll need temporary cover at the start; friends, family, or a sitter, while your dog builds their skills. Over time, you’ll rely less on cover.

Q: What if I’ve already tried training and it didn’t work?
That’s common. Many clients have been told to “let them cry it out” or to use punishment. Those methods create fear and setbacks. I use only ethical, evidence-based desensitisation that works without fear.

Q: Will medication help?
Sometimes. In severe cases, your vet may recommend medication to reduce anxiety. Medication doesn’t replace training, but it can lower stress enough to help your dog learn. I can work alongside your vet if needed.

Q: I’m in the USA – can you still help me?
Yes. I already support families across the States. We schedule calls to fit your time zone. Payments are processed securely in GBP, and your card provider automatically converts to USD.

Q: What if nothing works?
You’ll never be left alone. If progress stalls, we adapt the plan. My job is to keep you supported, calm, and moving forward.

🗓️ My Servics

Q: Do I need a consultation first?
Yes. Every new client must complete a 90-minute consultation. This gives me the information I need to design a personalised plan. If you’ve already had a consultation, you can book a programme without repeating it.

Q: What methods do you use?
Only force-free, fear-free, evidence-based methods. No aversives, no “balanced” training, no flooding, no crates. Research shows that punishment and confinement increase stress. I build trust and calm instead.

💻 Practicalities

Q: How do I join the session?
You’ll receive a Microsoft Teams link via email. Just click to join, no download needed.

Q: Do you offer refunds or guarantees?
No trainer can guarantee results, because success depends on many factors, including your dog’s history and how consistently training is applied at home. Refunds aren’t given once a programme begins, as my time and resources are dedicated to you. What I do guarantee is that you’ll receive full support, ethical methods, and guidance at every step.

Q: Can I reschedule sessions?
Yes. If you give at least 24 hours’ notice, you can reschedule without charge. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice are chargeable, as the time has been reserved for you.

Q: How do payments work?
All payments are processed securely via Square. UK clients pay in GBP. Overseas clients also pay in GBP, and your bank automatically converts it into your local currency.

Full payment is required at the time of booking to confirm your session.

Q: What if tech goes wrong during a session?
If the issue is on my side, the session will be rescheduled or extended at no cost. If it’s on your side (internet drop, device issue, power cut), the session remains chargeable.

Q: What do I need to prepare for an online session?

  • A stable internet connection and working device with camera/microphone
  • A quiet, familiar space for your dog
  • A WiFi camera positioned to monitor your dog during short absences
  • Access to WhatsApp for daily check-ins

Yes. You’ll receive written guidance and daily missions, plus unlimited WhatsApp and email support between calls.
